British Airways' Airbus a380's sent to Chateauroux for storage

British Airways are sending six of their Airbus a380's to Chateauroux Centre Maecel Dassault Airport for storage due to Covid-19 pandemic. Due to this outbreak, multiple aircraft belonging to British Airways have been grounded. Last week, British Airways sent five of their Boeing 747-400's to Teruel for storage. However, earlier today four Airbus a380-800's went to Chateauroux for storage.


The first aircraft to head to storage was G-XLEA operating flight BA1950. It is aged 7.4 years old and performed its first flight on the 9th of November 2012. The aircraft joined the British Airways fleet on the 4th of July 2013. Its last flight was operated as BA56, on the 23rd of March 2020, flying from Johannesburg, South Africa to London Heathrow.


G-XLEC was the second to head to the French airport operating flight BA9151. This aircraft is age 7 with its first flight performed on the 25th of March 2013. It joined British Airways fleet on the 18th of October 2013. Its last flight, BA12, was on the 23rd of March flying from Singapore to London Heathrow.


Flight BA1952 brought G-XLEF to Chateauroux. The aircraft is 6.2 years old. It took flight for the first time on the 13th of January 2014. On the 15th of May 2014, it joined British Airways. On the 26th of March 2020, G-XLEF operated flight BA286 from San Francisco to London.


The last A380 to go into storage today was G-XLEI operating flight BA1953. It first took flight on the 22nd of September 2014. It is 5.5 years old making it the youngest of the aircraft that went to France today. It initially joined British Airways on the 13th of February 2015. Its last flight was from Los Angeles to London Heathrow operating flight BA268.


British Airways owns 12 Airbus a380-800's to operate flights from Heathrow to 9 other destinations around the globe. These destinations include: Boston, Chicago, Hong Kong, Johannesburg, Los Angeles, Miami, San Francisco, Singapore and Vancouver. The remaining 8 A380's are currently in Heathrow but haven't been ruled out of storage.
