Hainan Airlines have recently been operating their Airbus A330-300 aircraft and their Boeing 787-9 from Los Angeles and Frankfurt to Wuhan, China. According to FlightRadar24, it appears that they have only been operating two of their aircraft continuously back and forth from the US and Germany.

It appears that B-1096 has been operating flight 715 from Wuhan, China (WUH/ZHHH) to Frankfurt (FRA /EDDF) since the 21st of April. The flight takes approximately 11 hours 5 minutes to get to the German city. However, on the 23rd of April, the airline operated flight HU712 from London Heathrow (LHR/EGLL) to Wuhan Tianhe International Airport (WUH/ZHHH). This aircraft is 1.3 years old. Hainan Airlines have also been using their Boeing 787-9 registered B-7667 to Los Angeles from Wuhan. The flight takes approximately 11 hours and has flight number HU451. It appears that its first flight to the US city took place on the 23rd of April. The aircraft is 2.8 years old.

Hainan Airlines was founded in 1993. The airline is well known in Ireland for connecting Dublin to Zhenzhen via Edinburgh, Scotland. However, this operation stopped taking reservations on the 26th of August 2019. It is very interesting to see the airline fly to Los Angeles and Frankfurt from Wuhan. This is the city where the virus seemed from but recently the virus has been kept under control and the city is slowly returning back to normal. On the 8th of April, Wuhan Airport reopened operations after closing due to the Coronavirus outbreak since the 23rd of January. They have began scheduled domestic flights from the airport. The airport operates flights to 50 different areas within mainland China. The city is a major transportation hub and receives 55 international flights weekly from 20 different countries. Hopefully, we will see these international flights slowly build their way back up in the airport.

After contacting the airline, I didn’t get any response. However, I will update this article if I do. It appears these flights are to transport medical equipment but this hasn’t been confirmed.
