IAG (International Airlines Group) wants to retire British Airways Boeing 747-400's, Iberia Airbus a340-600's and Aer Lingus Airbus a330's. According to Willie Walsh Group Chief Executive Officer, IAG are considering early retirement of these aircraft during the recovery phase after the peak of the Covid-19 virus. It is expected that 31 Boeing 747-400s, 16 Airbus a340-600's and a 'couple' of Airbus a330's.

'Our analysis of the likely evolution of demand through 2020 is that we would not require all of our aircraft that will be temporarily grounded, to come back into service so we're now evaluating how many of these grounded will be permanently grounded,' said Willie Walsh.

Mr. Walsh also stated that IAG would be retiring around 20 narrow bodies, however, he hasn't stated where they will come from.

'I would also like to point out that we have a significant amount of wide body aircraft coming off lease as we go through 2020 into 2021, over 40 narrow bodies come off lease in 2021. So there's a lot of flexibility in the fleet.'
