Eurowings Bombardier Dash 8
After Eurowings ceased a long-term wet lease agreement covering all of LGW’s Dash8-400s, LGW filed for voluntary self-administration.
Luftfahrtgesellschaft Walter stopped all their operations on behalf of Eurowings on the 24th of March 2020. The ACMI‘s either fleet was dry-leased from Nordic Aviation Capital and were transported from Düsseldorf International or Saarbrücken to Bratislava, Slovakia.
The charter specialist has stated on this operation that: "After the termination of the cooperation by Eurowings, we made intensive efforts to deploy our aircraft throughout Europe and will continue to do so while under administration. Due to the virtual complete standstill of air traffic, these efforts have so far not been successful," according to Managing Director Dominik Wiehage. "As it is also impossible to estimate whether we will receive public funding needed to tide us over until regular operations resume, particularly on regional routes served by LGW, we have therefore had to take this legally necessary step."
Last year, both companies Zeitfracht Gruppe and WDL Aviation decided that they would operate as a shared brand called German Airways. LGW is owned by Zeitfracht Gruppe and is a sister airline of WDL Aviation. LGW used to employ 354 staff which consisted of 294 crew. The airline is under its own management but a new provisional administrator and managing director have been appointed. They are Dirk Andres and Michael Wilbert, respectively.
The Lufthansa Group recently stated a review of their third-party wet-lease agreements. This is part of the airline’s restructuring. The group has announceD that they have terminated all their wet lease contracts to fight the Coronavirus situation. LGW used to be a very reliable partner to the group in terms of domestic German flights and their many international destinations across Europe. The group will no longer have employment opportunities available for wet-lease partners for aslong as this situation last.
