Russian Air Force Antonov 124 makes a fuel stop at Shannon Airport before transporting medical equipment to America. The Russian registered plane took off from Moscow Chkalovskiy Airport (CKL/UUMU) early this morning heading toward New York via Shannon and Goose Bay. The plane landed safely at John F. Kennedy International Airport at approximately 20:00 UTC.

The Antonov 124 is the second largest cargo plane in the world and the largest military aircraft in current service. The plane was first designed in the Ukraine SSR (then part of the USSR) by the Antonov Design Bureau. Its first flight was performed on the 24th of December 1982 and was introduced in 1986. In 2020, the aircraft now has 5 active operators. The 24th Flight Unit, Antonov airlines, Maximus Air Cargo, Volga Dnepr and the Russian Federation Air Force. The Russian Air Force has 4,163 aircraft (in 2019) with 4 being the Antonov 124. These large planes are currently being used to transport medical supplies during these strange times.
